The Wipers

Standard

Wrote this a few weeks ago. Now trying to pin it down into song form.

The Wipers

The window wipers have been swinging
For the last 60 miles
I haven’t the heart to tell her
There’s been no rain at all

I’m infatuated
With the girl who’s driving
I search my mind for topics
All that comes to mind is the weather

The wipers groan
The silence grows
Her reflection in the windshield
Is all I know

Everyone in the back is sleeping
This is my shining moment
I ask her about her childhood
All I get are short responses

I take solace
In my over-thinking
I jump to the conclusion
She’s not interested

The wipers groan
The silence grows
Excuses for glances
Are all I know

So I pull out some paper
And start to pen this song
Please turn off the wipers
Can’t you see that it’s not raining?
